Three years after going on sale, the reborn Toyota Supra will gain the option of a six-speed manual transmission later this year, along with new or revised features across the rest of the range. Here's everything to expect.

The 2023 Toyota GR Supra will gain a six-speed manual gearbox as an option as part of an update later this year alongside trim revisions – and likely a price rise.

More details have emerged since Toyota advised an updated GR Supra coupe range is due in local showrooms by the end of this year.

In addition to the long-awaited addition of a six-speed manual transmission – built by long-time BMW supplier ZF, joining the current eight-speed automatic available since launch – both grades will receive subtle equipment and trim changes.



Toyota says the manual gearbox will be available on base GT and flagship GTS model grades – however it is unclear if the manual will be cheaper, the same price, or dearer than the current automatic.

Drive has been told the standard feature lists are identical across both transmissions, aside from cruise control, which loses the automatic's radar-based adaptive functionality with the manual – despite Toyota's other turbo manual GR car, the GR Yaris, offering adaptive cruise control.

Alongside the range-wide option of a manual gearbox, the entry-level GT grade is understood to gain the enlarged 345mm rear brake discs previously exclusive to the flagship GTS (replacing 330mm items), with red Supra-badged calipers front and rear.



Combined with the now standard inclusion of metallic-accented sports pedals, prices are likely to rise for the GT, closing the $10,000 gap to the better-equipped GTS. The current range is priced from $87,303 to $97,303 plus on-road costs.

As previously reported, the GTS model will gain a new set of 19-inch wheels closer in design to the GR86 and GR Yaris, while a tan interior is expected to be optional on the GTS only – replacing the red interior option previously available (though black leather or Alcantara are set to remain available).

Suzuka Silver and Goodwood Grey exterior colours are expected to be dropped from the palette – replaced instead by Copper Grey metallic, Azure Blue metallic and the GTS-exclusive Matte White (for an extra cost).



These colours have previously been reported with the names Volcanic Ash Grey metallic, Dawn Blue metallic and Matte Avalanche White. Fuji White, Bathurst Black, Monza Red, Silverstone Yellow and Nurburg Matte Grey are expected to be retained.

Standard features on the GT include an 8.8-inch touchscreen with navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument display, 18-inch wheels, adaptive LED headlights, adaptive dampers, leather-accented sports seats, and a limited-slip rear differential.

Autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors are also standard, plus normal cruise control for the manual, adding radar tech with the auto.



Stepping up to the GTS adds 19-inch forged wheels, a head-up display, and a 12-speaker JBL premium sound system (replacing an unbranded 10-speaker unit).

The 2023 Toyota GR Supra range is due in Australian showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2022 (October to December).

Will there be a 2023 Toyota Supra?

The 2023 GR Supra arrives at U.S. Toyota dealerships this September. The 2023 lineup includes the 4-cylinder, automatic-only GR Supra 2.0, the 6-cylinder GR Supra 3.0 Base and Premium trims available with manual or automatic transmission, and the limited-production, manual-only GR Supra 3.0 A91.

What engine will the 2023 Supra have?

The stick-shifted Supra will be available exclusively with the 3.0-liter straight-six engine that makes 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque—same as the eight-speed automatic-equipped GR Supra.

Is the 2023 Supra getting a manual?

For many enthusiasts, something just didn't sit right about such a legendary nameplate at the top of the brand's Gazoo Racing–developed lineup being available only with an automatic. Fortunately, Toyota heeded the call to save the manuals, introducing a stick-shift Supra for 2023. It's as good as we'd hoped.

How fast is 2023 Supra?

The Supra 2.0 continues to make 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque from its 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. This engine comes paired exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission. In our testing, the Supra 2.0 sprinted to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.
