Adding information: Thêm thông tin

Liên từ: and, as well as

Trạng từ: also, anyway, besides, furthermore, in addition, likewise, moreover, similarly

Chúng ta sử dụng các biểu thức này để cung cấp thêm thông tin:

E.g: Fish supplies as with substances that might protect against heart disease. Moreover, in many cultures fish is known as a ‘brain food’.

Sequencing: Hậu quả

Trạng từ: first, next, after that, then; firstly, secondly, finally

“Firstly”, “secondly” và “finally” được sử dụng để sắp xếp các điểm trong một đối số:

E.g: Firstly, in terms of heart disease, it has been shown that consuming even small quantities of fish can lower your risk of heart disease by 17%. Secondly, consuming fish is known to have a beneficial effect on brain development. Finally, …

“First”, “next”, “after that” và “then” mô tả thứ tự các hoạt động trong một quy trình:

E.g: First the fruit is picked by hand. Then it is transported to the factory.

Cause, reason, result: Nguyên nhân, lý do, kết quả

Liên từ: because, so

Trạng từ: therefore, consequently, so, thus, as a result

Giới từ: because of, due to, on account of, owing to

Bởi vì giới thiệu lý do cho một cái gì đó, và vì vậy giới thiệu kết quả:

E.g: I eat fish three times a week because it protects against heart disease. (reason)

Fish protects against heart disease so I eat it three times a week. (result)

“Therefore”, “consequently”, “so”, “thus”, and “as a result” là giới thiệu kết quả của một tình huống hoặc hành động:

E.g: As a result, people are ‘unsure whether to increase or decrease the amount of fish they eat.

We use to introduce the reason for something:

Chúng ta sử dụng “because of”, “due to”, “on account of” and “owing to” để giới thiệu lý do cho một cái gì đó:

E.g: The match was cancelled because of the snow. (not because of it was snowing)

The buses were all running late owing to the bad weather.

Đồng thời ta có thể sử dụng “due to”, “on account of” and “owing to + the fact that” with a clause:

E.g: The match was cancelled due to the fact that it was snowing.

Contrasting: Tương phản

Liên từ: but, although, though

Trạng từ: alternatively, however, in contrast, nevertheless, on the contrary, on the other hand, yet

Giới từ: in spite of, despite

Chúng ta sử dụng nhưng giữa hai ý tưởng tương phản:

E.g: Fish has long been a staple food in many cultures, but there has been sonic controversy recently about the benefits and risks of consumption.

Mặc dù có thể đến lúc bắt đầu hoặc ở giữa hai ý tưởng tương phản. Chúng ta sử dụng dấu phẩy giữa hai mệnh đề:

E.g: Although the work was supported by grants from the Fisheries Scholarship Fund, this did not affect the research findings.

The work was supported by grants from the Fisheries Scholarship Fund, although this did not affect the research findings.

Chúng ta có thể sử dụng “in spite of” và “despite + noun/-ing” ở đầu hoặc ở giữa hai ý tưởng tương phản:

E.g: In spite of the considerable amount of literature on the risks and benefits of fish consumption, there are still important gaps in this information. (not in spite of there is a considerable amount)

I eat fish regularly for health reasons despite not liking it much. (not despite I didn’t like it)

Chúng ta có thể sử dụng “despite” và “in spite of + the fact that” với một mệnh đề:

E.g: I eat fish regularly for health reasons despite the fact that I don’t like it much.

Giving examples: Đưa ra ví dụ

Trạng từ: that is to say, in other words, that is (i.e.), for example

Chúng tôi sử dụng các biểu thức này để liên kết hai mệnh đề cung cấp cùng một thông tin theo một cách khác hoặc để đưa ra ví dụ:

E.g: There has been some controversy recently about the benefits and risks of fish consumption. for example, we know that fish supplies us with polyunsaturated fatty acids, substances that might protect against heart disease.

Đưa ra ý kiến:

I agree	Tôi đồng ý	I agree with the notion that students should take a year gap for traveling or working before they graduate.
I concur	Tôi nhất trí	I concur with the opinion that specifically supports restricting car ownership as a measure to curb air pollution.
I disagree	Tôi không đồng ý	I disagree with the viewpoint that women’s leadership ensures world peace.
I cannot agree	Tôi không thể đồng ý	I cannot agree that increasing the fuel price would be a viable solution to restrict the vehicles on the road.
I oppose the idea	Tôi phản đối ý kiến	I oppose the idea that people attend a college or a university only to get a job.
I cannot accept	Tôi không thể chấp nhận	I cannot accept the fact that tourism alone is responsible for the loss of native culture and tradition.

Giving Examples: 

To cite an example	Đưa ra một ví dụ	To cite an example, I started learning a second language at my primary school and that did not increase my study pressure at all.
For example	Ví dụ	For example, most companies want their employees to enhance their skills so that they can better performance over time.
For instance	Ví dụ	For instance, many developing countries are trying to improve their GDP through their export activities.
Namely	Cụ thể là	Namely, Australia and Canada have many charity organizations which work exactly for this cause.
To illustrate	Để minh họa	To illustrate, universities, these days, offer a wide range of subjects than they used to do in the past.
One clear example	Một ví dụ rõ ràng	One clear example would be my sister who, despite her graduation in mathematics, works as a journalist in a daily newspaper.
In other words	Nói cách khác	In other words, fathers should share these responsibilities and let mothers enjoy some leisure hours.

Listing Points:

Adding Information:

Additionally	Thêm vào đó	Additionally, computer games are addictive and can waste a large portion of the valuable time of a school-going child.
Moreover:	Hơn thế nữa	Moreover, young people have better technological knowledge than the older generation.
In addition:	Ngoài ra	In addition, fast food contains fat, preservative, and other harmful ingredients which are very detrimental to our health.
Furthermore:	Hơn nữa	Furthermore, helping developing countries in terms of providing education facilities, can strengthen the relationship between two countries.
And:	Và	And the negative impacts of establishing a large factory in our community would trigger other adverse consequences which would be hard to tackle in the long run.
Not only… but also:.	Không chỉ…mà còn	Not only deforestation damages the natural habitats of many species but also is the main reason for global warming
Also:	Cũng	Also, cities provide better job opportunities and a better living standard.
As well as:	Cũng như	Too much dependency on technological devices as well as the internet would bring catastrophic consequences once something goes wrong.

Từ nối thể hiện thời gian:

Subsequently:	Rồi sau đó	Subsequently, the increasing population in the city areas are the main reason there are so many unemployed people in these cities.
Eventually:	Cuối cùng	Eventually, the cost of medical health care would increase day by day and mass people would find it hard to get proper medical facilities.
Meanwhile:	Trong khi đó	Meanwhile, a single international language would reduce the language barrier among the people of different countries to a great extent.

Từ nối nhấn mạnh, làm nổi bật: 

Especially:	Đặc biệt	This step would be advantageous for people, especially for rural people, as it would increase the job opportunities in rural areas.
Clearly:	Rõ ràng	Clearly, this law is a violation of people’s privacy and that is why this law needs amendments.
Obviously:	Hiển nhiên	Obviously, automation in government sectors would reduce corruption to a great extent.
Specifically:	Nhất là	Corruption in government sectors, specifically in countries like India and Bangladesh, is another hindrance in the overall progress.
Of course:	Tất nhiên	Of course, the government has a responsibility to support those older people. But that does not mean that children of such senior citizens are free from their own responsibilities towards their aged parents.
In particular:	Cụ thể	In particular, there is almost no university in such underdeveloped areas and a large number of students, due to this, move to the city areas each year.

Từ nối đối lập:

Despite:	Mặc dù	Despite its immense benefits, we should be wary of its usages in our daily life.
In spite of:	Mặc dù	In spite of remarkable progress in recent years, women are still suffering from social discrimination in many developing countries.
By contrast:	Ngược lại	By contrast, knowledge gained from travelling and from real-life experiences has a greater impact on our future course of actions in life.
Alternatively:	Ngoài ra	Alternatively, the government can impose laws to control the market price of most essential commodities.
Another opinion could be:	Một ý kiến khác có thể là	Another option could be restricting the number of children a family can have.
On the other hand:	Mặc khác	On the other hand, owning a car is expensive as it requires parking, fuel, servicing, maintaining and yearly renewal costs.
Still:	Vẫn	Still, strictly controlling the number of children a family can have is not a feasible solution.
However:	Tuy nhiên	However, many destitute families rely on the earnings those young children bring to the family.
Although:	Mặc dù	Although implementing this would require a huge sum of money, this, in my opinion, is the most optimal solution.
Even though:	Mặc dù	Even though their arguments are somewhat convincing to listen to, in reality, the scenario is quite the opposite.
But:	Nhưng	But, the investment in trade and finance alone does not guarantee a steady growth of the GDP for this country.

Linking words dùng để so sánh: 

In comparison	Trong sự so sánh	In comparison to the past century, people these days do not have a strong family tie.
Admittedly	Thừa nhận	Admittedly, severe punishments set examples to other people temporarily but it lacks any long-term effect.
Similarly:	Tương tự	Similarly, capital punishment is brutal and fails to establish a bridge between social unrest and reformation.
Likewise:	Tương tự như vậy	Likewise, technological advancement creates new job opportunities both in developing and developed countries.
In the same way:	Theo cách tương tự	In the same way, increasing the tax would not be a viable solution to address this issue.

IELTS Writing task 2 linking words dành cho phần Conclusion:

In conclusion	Kết luận	In conclusion, we should strictly monitor the type of programs our children watch each day.
To conclude	Để kết thúc	To conclude, university admission should be merit-based, not gender-based.
To draw the conclusion	Để kết luận	To draw the conclusion, this is our world and we have to save it. Uncontrolled use of natural resources would endanger our very existence and that is why we should be much sensible of their usages.
To sum up	Để tóm gọn lại	To sum up, it is up to us to judge the authenticity of the news. But the journalists also have a professional and moral obligation to present us the truth.
