Engine, drivetrain and fuel economy

As standard, the entry-level Corolla Cross GX will feature a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine shared with the regular Corolla hatch/sedan and RAV4, producing 126kW of power, with a CVT automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

Hybrid versions – $2500 on top of the base petrol-powered price – use a new-to-Australia 2.0-litre petrol engine and 4.06Ah lithium-ion battery pack.

The hybrid has a combined power output of 146kW and is paired with an electronically-controlled continuously variable automatic transmission (e-CVT).

Under the skin, FWD variants sport torsion-beam rear suspension, while AWD grades adopt a multi-link set-up.

Both powertrains are compatible with 91 RON regular unleaded.
