Let's not date ourselves here, but once upon a time, it would have seemed unfathomable for a mere consumer-level heavy-duty pickup truck to pack 500 hp under its hood and tow 40,000 pounds.
And yet here we are, with the 2023 Super Duty capable of those best-in-class claims and more when it comes to towing, hauling, horsepower, and torque. The numbers keep creepin' up; it's admittedly hard to keep up. Let's briefly unpack some of the new Super Duty's numbers, acknowledging that it's not all about numbers—or is it? The Super Duty's engine count now stands at four. The 2023 Super Duty adds a brand-new 6.8-liter V-8 gasser and a super mega beefy high-output version of its 6.7-liter
Power Stroke V-8 diesel. (Only Ram had offered a high-output option, until now.) With 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque, the high-output (HO) Power Stroke touts the biggest numbers ever seen out of a factory diesel offering. We'll see if GM's Duramax can strike back sometime soon and hit 500.
2023 Ford Super Duty Towing and Hauling: Up 40,000 Pounds(!) of TowingLet this sink in: The 2023 Ford Super Duty can haul more payload (8,000 pounds) than some other full-size trucks can tow, and it can tow 40,000 pounds, half the combined weight of a semi-tractor with a fully loaded trailer. Of course, those top payload and towing stats belong to two separate trucks. Furthermore, one could argue that none of this matters since the aforementioned trucks are basically rare unicorns with very specific, particular specs that afford them best-in-class status (rather than your more common, readily available run-of-the-mill Super Duty). Nonetheless, here's a basic overview of the towing figures that Ford's most proud of: Gooseneck Towing

The bottom line is that, as expected, the 2023 Ford Super Duty is off the charts when it comes to numbers. Trending Pages
The 2023 Ford Super Duty, when properly equipped, can tow up to 40,000 pounds. All-new for 2023, the Super Duty is available with a high-output diesel engine making a jaw-dropping 1,200 pound-feet of torque. The phrase “when properly equipped” is working almost as hard as a 2023 Ford Super Duty in that sentence. To get the World’s Strongest Truck, you have to buy an F-450 Regular cab with the available 6.7-liter High Output Power Stroke V8 Diesel engine and the Max Tow Package, then put the weight on a gooseneck trailer. But that’s a production model of the truck available from Ford itself. Unmodified, it can tow the equivalent of 30 Holstein cows, six female African elephants, 77 André the Giants, or about five trucks identical to the truck doing the pulling. Maximum payload capacity for the new Super Duty, Ford says, is 8,000 pounds. For that, you’d have to buy an F-350 dual-rear-wheel regular cab 4×2 with the gas Heavy-Duty Payload package. Ford hasn’t revealed the truck’s curb weight, but the 2022 model started at around 7,700 pounds depending on configuration. So, you could probably buy two properly-equipped 2023 Ford Super Duty pickups and drive one home with the other in the bed if you could make it fit. The numbers are partly for bragging rights, but they could drive purchasing decisions. Ford reports that Super Duty pickups make up more than half of America’s construction fleet. That payload, the company notes, is equivalent to 80 bags of cement weighing 100 pounds each. The previous towing champ was the 2022 Ram 3500 HD, with a maximum of 37,050 pounds. Ford beat its own payload record — the 2022 Super Duty topped out at 7,850 pounds. 2023 Ford Super Duty Pricing:Ford also charges a $1,795 delivery fee on all Super Duty trucks.
