The ATP Cup debuted in January 2020 with 24 countries competing for a share of a huge AU$22 million in prize money. The exciting team format captivated fans across the world, with rounds played at three host cities in the first year: Brisbane, Perth and Sydney. Read moreRead less The ATP Cup replaced Brisbane International, Sydney International and the Hopman Cup, the previously held individual events which often conflicted, vying for top players. The first edition of the ATP Cup proved to be widely successful. The unique format starts with six groups of four countries who compete in Group Stages in a round-robin format. Each country competes in a tie, which consists of two singles matches and one doubles match. The six winners of the pools and the two best second-place getters move to the Final Eight. This exciting format ensures you see the world’s top players competing for their country, with the final played in Sydney. The first ATP Cup was won by Serbia, with Novak Djokovic defeating Rafael Nadal in the final singles match. The deciding doubles match was won by Serbia with Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki beating Spain’s Feliciano Lopez and Pablo Carreno Busta. This win meant Serbia took home the inaugural ATP Cup title and cemented the ATP Cup on the ATP Tour. Our official ATP Cup 2023 packages will be available soon. DestinationHost citiesThe ATP Cup is played over three host cities with Perth, Brisbane and Sydney hosting simultaneous Group Stages with the Final Eight knockout stage to be held in Sydney over the final four days of the tournament. Perth, the Western Australian capital, is the most isolated city of its size in the world and is known for its breathtaking beaches, blue skies and its easy-going attitude. Brisbane is the river city with a flourishing restaurant, bar and cultural scene with incredible wild-life, sub-tropical beaches and national parks within a short day trip from the city. Sydney is Australia’s iconic city with world-renowned landmarks, beaches and an anything-goes attitude. It’s a fast-paced city that will keep you entertained ClimateThe ATP Cup is held in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney during January, the middle of summer in Australia. Perth is hot in January with average highs of 30°C and lows of 19°C, while Brisbane is 29°C/22°C and Sydney 26°C/19°C. Things to do in host cities Kings Park & Botanic Garden Covering over 400 hectares, this is one of the world's largest and most beautiful inner city parks, overlooking Perth's CBD and the Swan River. Stradbroke Island Located 30kms southeast of Brisbane's CBD is the stunning island known as 'Straddie' within Moreton Bay. The island is a popular spot for four wheel driving, fishing, hiking, camping, swimming and exploring and is worth a multi-day jaunt after your ATP Cup experience. Why was Brisbane International tennis Cancelled?The Brisbane International - an important lead-up each year to the Australian Open and the biggest tennis tournament in Queensland - was cancelled in 2021 because of COVID-19. Tennis Queensland chief executive and Brisbane International tournament director Mark Handley conceded things were tight for the 2022 event.
