Mercedes EQS SUV 2023 price

With Mercedes-Benz kicking off production of the all-electric EQS SUV in Alabama before the end of August, the German automaker is ready to share some news on how much the SUV will cost. Pricing for the 2023 EQS SUV will start at $105,550 (including destination) for the EQS 450+ model. That makes the EQS SUV $2,190 more expensive than the EQS 450+ Sedan.

Similar to the EQS Sedan, the 2023 Mercedes EQS SUV will be available in three trims: Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle. Mercedes will offer the all-electric SUV with three powertrain configurations that includes the EQS 450+, EQS 450 4Matic, and EQS 580 4Matic. Jumping from Premium to Exclusive is a $4,250 upgrade, while $2,000 separates the Exclusive trim from the Pinnacle. Going from the EQS 450+ to the EQS 450 4Matic powertrain requires $3,000 and buyers will need to fork over an extra $18,550 to get the EQS 580 4Matic over the EQS 450 4Matic.

While the EQS SUV has a much higher starting price tag than the EQS Sedan, comparing the range-topping versions of the two electric cars reveals a smaller difference of $1,250. The smallest gap between the two EVs is when you compare the EQS 580 4Matic trims, which are only split by $150.

Pricing isn’t the only thing that separates the EQS SUV from the EQS Sedan. The SUV’s EQS 450+ model comes with a single electric motor on the rear wheels for 355 horsepower and 419 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain has 26 more hp than the same configuration in the sedan body style. While the EQS SUV has more power, it loses range compared to the sedan. Mercedes claims the base EQS 450+ has an estimated range of 305 miles compared to the sedan’s official EPA figure of 350 miles.

The EQS 450 4Matic is unique to the SUV. It comes with two electric motors and all-wheel drive, but Mercedes isn’t ready to share what kind of power the model will make. The range-topping EQS 580 4Matic also comes with two electric motors and AWD, but turns up the performance with 536 hp and 633 lb-ft of torque. This is slightly more than the sedan model, but, once again, range takes a hit. Both the EQS 450 4Matic and the EQS 580 4Matic have an estimated range of 285 miles. This is well behind the EQS 580 4Matic sedan that can travel up to 340 miles.

For buyers that are similar with Mercedes’ lineup, the EQS Sedan is similar to the S-Class, while the EQS SUV can be seen as an electrified version of the GLS. Just like with those models, the main difference between the EQS Sedan and EQS SUV is their body styles, duh, and the fact that the EQS SUV is available with a third row, which bumps seating to up to seven. Beyond that, the two models share a lot of features and components. With the EQS SUV being heavier and larger than the sedan, it loses some range over the sedan and costs quite a bit more. Still, we expect the EQS SUV to be the more popular option of the two.

Because of the EQS SUV’s starting price tag, the vehicle isn’t eligible for any portion of the federal tax credit for EVs. The updated federal tax credit has a cap of $80,000 for SUVs. The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV will arrive at dealerships this fall.
